Implemented a disability screening tool. This is completed from the first night reception screening. We also developed care guidance for our colleagues working on the wings to help them deal with the young people with differing issues.

Our mental health team supply a dedicated, trained, learning difficulties nurse who ensures interaction with all those we are aware of with this disability.

Offenders, upon arrival, are interviewed by Healthcare who complete an Equalities questionnaire with the individual in private. During this they are asked to disclose any disabilities including LDD's. This information is then shared with relevant departments to ensure additional support.

During the reception / induction process if there are any disclosed learning difficulties or staff have concerns regarding learning a referral is completed and passed to IMHT (Integrated Mental Health Team) through single point of access. The prisoner is then assessed and referred to the establishment LDD link (Lancashire Care Foundation Trust) who in turn attends the establishment and carries out a full assessment and provides support.

There is a learning disability nurse designated within healthcare who works with identified offenders with need for support. Any offenders identified with learning difficulties are referred to and managed via the education contract provider.
